Disability and Romance
When I imagine my characters, I try to recreate in my stories the great variety of tastes, types, and personalities that we have in life. So, I usually do an extensive research for each profile, as you can see in my social media.
Since Tavish Uilleam, from Love Painted in Red, was born, I have felt a desire to write about people with disabilities. Just a few days ago, after I put the final stop on Damaged Love, a sweet, heartbreaking romance featuring a double below-knee amputee British veteran, Lord Richard Smith, I received an email from Romance Writers of America, asking me to take a survey done by Disability and Romance Project.
The Disability and Romance Project aims to start new conversations about disability in the romance community. They are gathering data from novel readers, writers, and other industry professionals to explore how readers respond to depictions of disability in romance, what motivates authors to write disabled characters, and if there are any barriers to publishing novels featuring disabled characters.
